The University of Uyo Alumni Association has restated its resolve to continue to encourage academic excellence among students of the institution through scholarship awards and prizes for best graduating students in all the faculties of the institution.
National president of the association, Onofiok Luke, made this known during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held recently in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
By the arrangement, the best graduating student in each faculty is to be awarded a cash prize of N200,000 each graduating year.
The alumni association pledged to continue to give back to the university, as well as initiate programmes that will create positive impact for members and students.
Luke noted that to actualise the association’s vision for the university, NEC has set up some strategic committees which include National Legal Council, Convocation Committee, Budget Committee, Education Development Committee, Diaspora Development Committee, Project Development Committee, Sports Development Committee and Welfare Committee.
The NEC also appointed Mrs Amayo Atope as Secretary-General and Mr. Sunday Umanah as Assistant Secretary-General. This followed the resignation of the former secretary and the demise of the former assistant secretary.
The group congratulated one of its own, Pastor Umo Eno on his emergence as Governor of Akwa Ibom State and also felicitated with other members who are elected or appointed into various positions across the country.
The group called on other members to be prepared to join in the task of making the university of better and bigger.
