WE must first of all appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government in its bid to employ the youths roaming the streets.
However, some things need to be done right. There must be strict rules guiding applications for employment in the federal service.
In order to checkmate favouritism (‘man know man’) and nepotism, applicants should be mandated to apply for a single federal job at a time.
Many youths nowadays do not see these oppurtunities as a means of pursuing a career, but as a means to make ends meet.
Hence, the passion and the zeal expected to be displayed in one’s chosen career are often missing.
For instance, whenever the Nigerian Army, Depatment of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) are conducting recruitments, we see a single applicant applying for all.
The question is, is it possible that the said youths have a passion for all of these jobs, or they are just searching for a job?
Restriction to only one entry would help to checkmate excessive application and facilitate screening. It would also checkmate applicants who are so influencial that they are able to secure all available entries in these agencies and, in the end, choose the one they like best, thereby denying some applicants who have been screened out just to get them a slot.
Nigeria belongs to everyone of us. We should have equal rights and oppurtunities.
