No fewer than two persons have been reportedly killed, on Friday, in a deadly attack involving street boys in Ajegunle, a densely populated community in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government area of Lagos State.
Several others have also been said to have sustained serious wounds and many lost their property during the fracas as the fighters reportedly fought themselves with cutlasses, axes, cudgels and other dangerous weapons.
Reliable sources told Saturday Tribune that Friday’s fight was a reprisal from Monday, July 10th’s attack between the rival street boys at Alayabiagba Street and Ogbowankwo axis of the community.
The source said the brawl, which lasted for about three hours, was more intense than the previous one, as people, this time around, locked themselves inside their houses and traders abandoned their wares and scampered alongside passersby, for safety.
Trouble started, Saturday Tribune learnt, when some street boys besieged Alayabiagba’s Street around 9.00 am, to retaliate against the alleged slabbing to death of one of them by the rival street boys during a fight a few days earlier.
The sources further explained that those who came on reprisal came on a mission to kill the person, who allegedly stabbed one of them and that they achieved their aim by stabbing the person, simply identified as Wale, a barber, to death.
The source, who said people were still in panic in the area as of 6.00 pm, noted that street fighting among Ajegunle boys is a common occurrence and most times, deadly, with the policemen in the area, most times, incapable of taming them.
A police officer at the nearby Ajeromi Police Station, confirmed the incident, on condition of anonymity, to Saturday Tribune, noting that peace has been restored to the area and the police would commence an investigation to bring to book all those connected to the crisis.
