Two suspected armed robbers who attempted to rob an unsuspecting passerby have met their waterloo in Biogbolo community, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, while two others escape, leaving one severely injured.
Tribune Online learnt that two out of the five-man suspected robbery gang were killed by an angry mob after their attempt to rob after stealing N1000 from their victims.
It was learnt that the suspects believed to be members of a cult group terrorising the community, had attacked their victim and forcefully collected the sum of N1000 cash and a mobile phone.
They were reportedly attempting to continue the raid in the community when angry youths, mostly residents, intercepted them and in an ensuing confrontation, two of the suspects were beaten to death before men of the state police command intervened and rescued the injured suspect.
The five-man gang were said to be criminal who frequently terrorises the area and rob unsuspecting businessmen and women around the Otiotio/Erepa business district.
An eyewitness who didn’t want his name on print, said “those boys are one of the several gangs that terrorise us in this area. We suffer a lot from them on daily basis, they rob us and go free, the police are not doing anything about it, they move freely with firearms in the state and not caught, even if they are caught they’ll be released in no time.”
Another eyewitness said, “at least we will be free for some time now, this is the first and we will continue, jungle justice will persist so that they will reduce this everyday crime, they rob people and cross to the other side of the community every day, we are on red alert now.”
The spokesperson, DSP Asimin Butswat, who confirmed the incident said two locally made pistols were recovered, adding that the names of the deceased were yet to be sent to his office.
