Twelve people lost their lives in an auto crash that happened along the Katsina-Ala-Zaki Biam road on Tuesday.
An eyewitness account said that the accident happened around 12:32 pm and was caused by speeding on the part of the two drivers.
The eyewitness who pleaded not to be mentioned claimed that one of the vehicle’s drivers, who was at speed, tried to escape the pothole and, in the process, rammed into the next vehicle, which was also at speed.
He said, “One of the drivers tried to dodge a pothole but had a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle.
“Twelve people were killed in the accident; the Golf vehicle (for commercial) had nine passengers and the Nissan car (private) had three people
“The four that sustained various degrees of injuries and were conveyed to the hospital have died
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Steve Ayodele, who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday, said eight people were killed in the crash.
According to him, “It’s a multiple accident involving two vehicles, and it was fatal. Ten people were involved: four female adults, one male adult, and one female child.
“Out of the ten, eight people died. Four female adults, three male adults, and one female child. Two people were injured and were taken to Kastina-Ala General Hospital for medical attention.
“It was a head-on collision; one of the vehicles was trying to avoid a pothole and rammed into an oncoming vehicle. I guess it was as a result of speeding; otherwise, they would have been able to make their way.”
