Tribune Online authoritatively gathered that the incident which occurred around 5.00 pm along Orita Oki area of the town caused apprehension as many scampered to safety to avoid being caught up by the impact of the auto crash.
Though, eyewitness at the scene gave different accounts of what led to the accident, one of the residents in the neighbourhood informed our correspondent that the driver of the Toyota Camry car was on top speed when he crushed three persons on a commercial motorcycle and another lady, who just finished writing her post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test.
The young lady, an indigene of Ede whose identity could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report was said to be coming from the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, where she had gone to write the post UTME test when she was allegedly crushed by the driver of the car.
When Tribune Online visited the scene of the accident on Tuesday, one of the residents of Orita Oloki, who pleaded anonymity hinted that “the driver, who is an HND 11 student in the Department of Building Technology at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede had before crushing four persons knocked down a woman in purdah around Olowobida area.

According to him, “three male students and one female student were in the car. But, instead of the driver to wait where he hit the woman, he sped off while being chased by some soldiers. He could not control his speed by the time he got to Orita Oloki sharp bend where he crushed the lady and three persons on Okada.”
He stated further that “all the three persons on the commercial motorcycle died on the spot, while the cyclist who was rushed to an undisclosed hospital died later. Irked by development, some irate youths and students later attacked the driver and lynched him to death. Three other occupants of the car managed to escape from the scene.”
Another eyewitness told our correspondent that the lynched driver, suspected to be a “yahoo boy” was drunk by the time he crushed the victims at Orita Oloki and the smell of alcohol from his body infuriated the irate youths, who attacked him by smashing his head with planks and other dangerous items.
At the scene of the accident on Tuesday, blood stains littered the spot, just as leather slippers wore by the lady and other personal effects of the victims were seen, while the electric pole affected by the impact of the crash had almost broken down with its dangling cables.
When contacted, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye confirmed the incident but said only two persons died in the crash, adding that one person was crushed by the driver, who was lynched by some irate individuals.
Describing the lynching of the driver as barbaric, he said the Police had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence of the auto crash.
