It is quite surprising that in this day and age of convenient international travel, there are still some countries that are hard to access. These countries are separated from the rest of the world because they are frequently at the edge of enormous oceans, encircled by towering mountains or deep rainforests.

  • Tuvalu
  • Nauru
  • Kiribati
  • Federated States of Micronesia
  • Palau
  • Marshall Islands
  • Solomon Islands
  • Vanuatu
  • Comoros
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis

The most remote nations can be identified based on some variables, such as physical isolation, low population density, and inadequate infrastructure.

Tribune Online presents the top 10 most remote countries in the world;

Tuvalu

A small island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, Tuvalu is one of the least populous countries globally and faces challenges related to its remote location and vulnerability to climate change.

Nauru

Another small island nation in the Pacific Ocean, Nauru is one of the smallest countries by land area and population. It faces economic challenges and relies heavily on international aid.

Kiribati

Comprising numerous atolls and islands scattered across the central Pacific Ocean, Kiribati faces significant geographical isolation and environmental threats, including sea-level rise.

Federated States of Micronesia

This country consists of four states spread across the western Pacific Ocean. Its remote location and limited infrastructure present challenges for economic development and access to services.

Palau

An archipelago located in the western Pacific Ocean, Palau is known for its pristine natural beauty and marine biodiversity. Its remote location contributes to its status as one of the world’s least visited countries.

Marshall Islands

Comprising numerous atolls and islands in the central Pacific Ocean, the Marshall Islands face challenges related to their remote location, environmental vulnerabilities, and limited resources.

Solomon Islands

Located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, the Solomon Islands consist of numerous islands, many of which are remote and sparsely populated. Access to services and infrastructure is limited in many areas.

Vanuatu

An archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean, Vanuatu is known for its rugged landscapes, active volcanoes, and diverse cultures. Its remote location presents challenges for transportation, communication, and economic development.

Comoros

Located off the eastern coast of Africa, the Comoros is an island nation with a small population and limited infrastructure. Its remote location in the Indian Ocean contributes to its relative isolation.

Saint Kitts and Nevis

A dual-island nation located in the Caribbean Sea, Saint Kitts and Nevis are known for their natural beauty and historical significance. While they are popular tourist destinations, their remote location compared to larger Caribbean islands contributes to their sense of isolation.

These countries are often considered among the most remote due to their geographic isolation, sparse populations, and limited infrastructure, which pose challenges for economic development, access to services, and connectivity with the rest of the world.
