I have taken my time to examine the atmosphere of Oyo State before the general elections, during and after the election.
The atmosphere, no doubt has been very warmly as residents in the state cannot wait to usher in their governor-elect, Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde as number one Chief Security Officer.
One need to critically look at the circumstances that brought in the governor-elect, why his election was won by a landslide margin without any form of controversy.
Should we say people really love Seyi Makinde? Or we should conclude that they hate the APC-led government? If we say people in Oyo State dislike APC, we may not be far from the truth, as the Presidential election result is a pointer to that fact that the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defeated President Mohammed Buhari in Oyo State even though with a slim margin.
So, why then Makinde defeated Adelabu with such a wide margin? I want to conclude that the election is a referendum from the good people of Oyo State that the APC government is not living to their expectations and voting them again will not augur well with them.
Now back to the popular slogan of the Seyi’s supporters “Seyi e da, Seyi e re “before the election.
The “Seyi e da, Seyi e re” has now become a reality.
Of course, the Seyi is now here, it has now metamorphosed to “GSM” an abbreviation of “Governor Seyi Makinde” but the acronyms itself is significant to be known as “General System Mobile” which is now everywhere you go in Nigeria and this implies that, Engr Seyi Makinde dividends of democracy and impact has to be in all nooks and crannies of the state.
Consequently, the governor-elect must ensure that his records of performance surpassed the expectations of the people. The perception that he has not held any political position before should be proved wrong.
He must ensure that his government is people’s friendly.
It is important to point out that the referendum mandate given to him is expected to lapse by 2023 but if his performance is commendable, he should be rest assured of the second term.
Of course, we need no prophet to tell us that the task ahead will not be that easy but with the support of God and good people of Oyo State, you will succeed.
Your government should ensure that necessary mechanism is put in place to get feedback from people and competent hands are put in different Ministries to coordinate daily activities of your government considering the fact that your eyes cannot be everywhere.
Last but not the least, our governor-elect should ensure that the security of the state is not compromised, as this will bring in more investors to the state and the government should also prioritize the infrastructural development of the public schools in the state, as 80% of the schools are nothing to write about. Most of the buildings of these schools have become dilapidated due to lack of maintenance.
