Nigeria’s leading tattoo artist, Olamide Adepoju, popularly known as Silk, says tattooing has moved from a hidden practice to a celebrated art form in the country, as he prepares to host the third edition of the Lagos Tattoo Convention on December 28, 2025, at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Silk, founder of the tattoo brand TattooLockdown, has spent more than a decade shaping Nigeria’s contemporary tattoo landscape. His clean, detailed designs and bold creativity have drawn top celebrities, including musicians Olamide and Burna Boy.
“Tattooing in Nigeria used to be hidden. Now, it’s celebrated. I’ve dedicated years to changing the narrative, and we’re only just beginning,” he said.
The Lagos Tattoo Convention has grown into the country’s biggest gathering for tattoo artists, piercers, creatives and enthusiasts of alternative culture. The 2025 edition will feature live tattooing, body art showcases, music, fashion and discussions on body positivity and artistic freedom.
“It’s not just about ink—it’s about community, culture, and the freedom to express yourself unapologetically,” Silk added.
As tattoo culture gains wider acceptance across Africa, Silk continues to mentor emerging artists, promote industry standards and expand the reach of the TattooLockdown movement, reinforcing his mission to redefine body art in Nigeria.
