A crucial meeting between the representatives of the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to end the ongoing strike action by the lecturers is ongoing in Abuja.
The third meeting convened on Thursday at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige, has the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, and other government negotiation team, while the ASUU team was led by its President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi.
Ngige, in his opening remarks, said several meetings had been held by the government side to resolve what he called “two contentious” issues ahead of the meeting today.
The two contentious issues been the earned allowance for the Universities lecturers and the revitalization fund of Nigeria Universities System.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu expressed optimism that the two parties would come to a compromise for the universities to be reopened to students.
On his part, President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, said he his team to the meeting with open mind, saying if the contentious issues were resolved the ASUU leadership team would reconvene its National Executive Council Meeting for further actions.
