Politicians across the country, especially in the Niger Delta, have been warned to desist from using youths as political thugs ahead of the 2023 general election.
Rather, they had been admonished to help the youth by providing them with legitimate livelihoods to keep them busy and productive.
The admonition came from a Christian fellowship in Warri, Harbinger Christian Publication, headed by the Harbinger of the Last Covenant, Archbishop Iyke Nathan Uzorma, during the Global Peace Prayer Conference held at Enerhen, Warri, Delta State.
“We are using this opportunity to plead with the politicians; if you want to help the youth, help them. Give them something to do. Don’t give them guns to parade themselves as political thugs. Don’t do something you won’t do to your own children to other people’s children,” he pleaded.
The archbishop also called on Nigerians to intensify earnest prayers against enemies of peace and tranquility in the country and across the globe.
He called on Christians to pray against those blocking the entrenchment of peace in Nigeria and the world.
Archbishop Uzorma, in his message entitled: ‘My peace I give unto you’, said that there might be some people who were making fortune as a result of the insurgency, insecurity in Nigeria and conflict happenings around the world.
“We must pray against those blocking peace in Nigeria. There might be some people that are benefiting from insurgency and insecurity in the country; maybe because of the arms they are selling to the terrorists and therefore, don’t want peace in the nation.
“The issue of terrorism is as a result of fund mismanagement in the country since independence.
“There’s an adage in Igbo language that says ‘when there is crisis, the chiefs eat.’
“Absence of peace in a home is the foundation of poverty. When you understand what is happening in Ukraine and Russia, you will understand peace.
“Begin with your mouth and from your heart, that is when you speak, someone will have peace.
“The government alone cannot give peace. Take a stand for peace in your family, community and nation. We are here in this world to be our brothers’ keeper.
“When you stand for peace and practise peace, the Almighty God will stand for you,” he reiterated
The cleric warned politicians to desist from using the youth as political thugs and help them legitimately
Speaking on the purpose of the conference, which recorded the attendance of eminent clerics across the South-South, chairman of the Conference’s Central Organising Committee, Dr. Amos Livingstone, said the timing of the prayer conference was an attestation that God was interested in saving not only Nigeria, but the whole world.

“Absolutely, When we came with the Buhari government in 2015 I became the minister. We were committed to a roadmap to establish a National Carrier, to concession the airports, to set up a leasing company, to establish cargo facilities and we have been doing that.”
On why the Buhari government wanted a national carrier, the minister responded: “Nigeria is situated at the centre of Africa, equidistant from all locations in Africa. 30.4 million square kilometres miles, 1.5 billion people, very green land. If Central and Eastern Africa is the belt of the continent, then Nigeria is the buckle. 200 million people and rising middle class, propensity to fly is high. Nigeria is a candidate for National Carrier.”
Sirika who insisted that the coming national carrier will be private sector driven added; “Private. Yes. 5 per cent government and no government stepping right in that company, no government control, no membership of government on board. Totally private and committed.
“Whatever we say we will do as a government since 2015, it has happened. that is why Tim Clark of Emirates, Qatar Airways and all of them are looking to go into Nigeria in multiple frequencies and multiple landing points because Nigeria is the right place for the airline business.
