State Congress: Ogun PDP elects new executives

THE Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has elected new executive officers during the state Congress of the party, held on Saturday, in Abeokuta.

The election which was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had Hon Sikirullahi Ogundele as the new state chairman.

The election was held under tight security within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), with delegates drawn from all the 20 Local Government Council Areas.

However, prominent members of the party including a two time governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Prince Buruji Kashamu and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole were absent at the state Congress.

Speaking with newsmen, the Vice Chairman of the party in the South West, Mr Eddy Olafeso, sued for peace among members in the state, saying “nobody wins alone. We are stronger when we are united.

“We must not take for granted the journey so far because without the sacrifices of everybody, this wouldn’t have been possible.

“I continue to plead with you; the work has just started. We have gone through too much trauma and all of us must reach out to our brothers and sisters. It is obvious nobody wins alone, we are stronger together.”

Ogundele in his acceptance speech pledged to bring all “aggrieved” members back to the party, saying he would run an open administration.

“We intend to spread hands of fellowships to members that are aggrieved, we intend to extend a hand of goodwill to members of other parties and I don’t have any doubt in my mind that we will put an end to the government of penny wise, pound foolish of APC (All Progressives Congress).

“The entire people of Ogun State should expect a very vibrant, constructive party and we are looking up to having a 2019 election won by PDP. We will run all inclusive and a united PDP, we want to run a political administration that will encourage party members of other parties”.
