THE sokoto state government has introduced more incentives for farmers in its quest to improve the cultivation of wheat, sesame, garlic and onions in the state.
The State Governor, Aminu Wazir Tambuwal, made this known during an inspection of a wheat farm at Taloka, Goronyo Local Govdernment Area of the state.
The 43-hectare farm, supported by the government is in partnership with some flour mills to off-take the commodity.
Tambuwal, noted that the support became imperative considering the economic benefit of the crops within and outside the country.
‘‘Our support for wheat, garlic, sesame and onions farmers have been doubled to enable Sokoto maintain its position as one of the leading states producing these crops in the federation,’’ he said.
He further stated that the government will continue in its effort to encourage private sector participation in agriculture in the state, so as to enhance the growth of the sector.

‘‘These additional supports are in form of loans and grants, training of farmers and extension workers in modern farming technique, provision of free and improved seedlings, provision of fertilisers and pesticides and lease of equipment to boost production,’’ the Governor said.
Tambuwal, commended the farm owner for keying into the sector and encouraged the people to emulate him. The farmers also commended the Governor for his numerous interventions in the various agricultural activities of the state.
