The COP is the largest annual climate summit. COP28 is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It begins today, from November 30 to December 12. COP is short for “Conference of the Parties,” meaning those countries who joined or are “party to” the international treaty called the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
COP28 stands for the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
At COP28, the world is coming together to determine how to accelerate action on the climate crisis: from limiting global warming to supporting communities on the frontlines.
World leaders and country delegates are being joined by representatives of business, civil society, and the media, bringing in perspectives from across all of society.
COP28 will include the first-ever global stocktake. As an inventory of the world’s progress on climate action, it is a unique opportunity to scale up climate ambition on all levels.
Building on the outcomes of previous COPs, countries will also look to progress on other critical issues such as the clean energy transition and climate finance.
