Ayanfe, in his divorce suit, stated that his wife deceived him into marrying her and also reneged on their agreement that she should change her faith from Christianity to Islamic.
Tosin, responding to the claims, stated that she didn’t regard Ayanfe as her husband but just the father of her children because he didn’t carry out any marital rites on her.
Tosin added that she was surprised that Ayanfe was asking for divorce because they had already parted ways three years ago.
The court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, after listening to both parties dissolved their union and mandated the plaintiff to bring the two children produced by their union to court once in a month for the defendant to see and interact with.
“My wife didn’t tell me she had a child for another man before we got married. It was her father who hinted me she once had a husband.
“She moved in with me after I impregnated her and I insisted that we carry out the marital rites but she cautioned me saying she had been warned not to display any flamboyance during her wedding. We therefore went to her family to collect the list of the items I was expected to bring to them at a quiet ceremony.
“She started fighting my first wife after she moved in and later moved out but we were reconciled. She insisted I rented another place for her and I did, but the crisis in our home didn’t cease.
“I told her from the outset of our relationship that she would change from her Christian faith to being a Muslim and she agreed, but to my surprise, she didn’t stop going to church.
“There were times I locked the gate to our house in order to discourage her from attending church services but she would climb the fence and go.
“At the end, she handed over our children to me stating that she wanted to make amendment with Jesus Christ.
“I went to her church to see her pastor who told me he had nothing to do with our marital issue. I also sought the audience of her family members who directed me to her father. Her father also did little or nothing in settling our differences, “he said.
“My lord, I never got married to the man I had my first child for. He impregnated me in the secondary school and we had since then gone our different ways.
“Ayanfe and I were dating and this ended in an unplanned pregnancy. I agreed to marriage because I didn’t want to abort the pregnancy. He told me I had no problem marrying him although he has a wife already. According to him, it was expected of him to marry more than a wife as a Muslim.
“My family members gave him a list of things to bring for our marital rites but he never acted on the list till date.

“My peace deserted me after I moved into his house because he and his first wife were always fighting each other and I knew I was the cause.
“He insisted I must get converted to Islamic religion but never thought me how to pray the Islamic way. I never saw him prayed early in the morning like other Muslims did. He was always still in bed by this time.
“Even when sitting on the mat, I kept praying the Christian way, calling unto Jesus to deliver me from the bondage I entered into. My marriage to him was obviously a big mistake.
“I decided to make my peace with God and get reconciled with Jesus Christ which got him mad. I requested he rented a room for me where I had our second child few months later.
“He restricted me from working when I was with him and later gave me N5, 000 to learn a trade when I insisted on working. He bought me no equipment nor did the graduation ceremony for me.
“He took our kids away from me and stopped me from seeing them for the past three years, “the defendant concluded.
