A group of students under the umbrella of Nigeria Students Solidarity Movement, (NSSM) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene with regard to the intrigue that has led to the delay in the confirmation of the ministerial nominee from Delta state, Hon. Stella Okotete.
Director General of NSSM, Comrade Rioborue Deniran, appealed to the President to intervene in ensuring Okotete’s immediate confirmation by the Senate.
“We believe that her sterling quality and good track record would ordinarily see her through, but we wish to lend our voice against any manipulative tendencies of naysayers and propagandists.
“The inclusion of Okotete on the ministerial list earlier sent to the Senate for confirmation brought joy to the students’ community and sundry on the ground that her love and passion for youth and students policies is beyond comprehension, confirming her as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will strengthen her commitment towards student and educational development,” Daniran stated in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He added that her delayed confirmation did not at any point threaten her sanity and credibility as she remains calm and eminently qualified as a minister.
Deniran, while appealing to Mr President for intervention, also commended him for his numerous student policies, which have renewed the hope of Nigerian students.
“His recent appointment of Miss Orire Agbaje, who is a 400 level student, as Member Presidential Committee of Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, the recent removal of restrictions on the Students’ Loan, intervention by directing school authorities to defer an increase in sundry fees payable, provision of buses to students’ bodies and many more,” stated.
