Saturday polls: INEC begins distribution of sensitive materials in Anambra

THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Anambra State says it has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials for 2019 rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly Elections Today (Wednesday).

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, who anchors the distribution exercise at the CBN office premises Awka, explained that the ballot papers and result sheets would be distributed for delivery to its Local Government offices at the Central Bank of Nigeria premises Awka.

He noted that the replaced Smart Card Readers burnt last two weeks would be distributed at the State INEC headquarters, Awka.

He noted further that the exercise will be carried out in the presence of representatives of security agencies, party agents, election observers and media practitioners.

He reassured the people of the state that the forthcoming election would be free, fair and credible under his watch.

The elections which were postponed few hours to their commencement last Saturday will now be conducted on Saturday, February 23 this week.

Meanwhile, the Anambra state chairman of the People Democratic Party PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, said, he is not comfortable with the non- customisation of the House of Representative result sheets main for Saturday, February 23, 20 19, Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Chief Nwobu, stated this at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Awka, the Anambra state capital while monitoring the handover and distribution of the election material to all the 21 local government areas of the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

Nwobu, who raises the alarm shortly after he discovered that the result sheets for House of Representatives were not customised, explain that the non- customisation of the result sheets for the election may lead to multiple announcements of results in different quarters including social media platforms, which can cause judicial misinterpretation during election tribunal, rift among candidates and their party agents at the polling units.

He called on the electoral umpire to do something urgently possible to ensure that the Reps result sheets are customised for the sake of integrity and trust within the limited period.
