In line with its commitment to support and empower African social innovators and entrepreneurs, Sahara Group Foundation, the corporate social sustainability vehicle for leading energy and infrastructure conglomerate Sahara Group, has announced the selection of twenty (20) social innovators from across Africa to participate in the 2023 Sahara Impact Fund Fellowship program.
The program, in partnership with LEAP Africa and Impact Amplifier, received over 300 applications from 19 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Sahara Impact Fund Fellowship program, which was launched in 2020, aims to empower visionary African changemakers by providing them with the knowledge and resources necessary to expand their social enterprises and address environmental and social challenges in society.
During the induction ceremony of the new Fellows, Ejiro Gray, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, expressed excitement about the start of the third cohort of the program and commended the Fellows for their commitment to accelerating Africa’s development through their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit.
Gray encouraged the Fellows to make the most of the Fellowship courses, workshops, mentorship, peer support, and networking opportunities to strengthen themselves and their social enterprises in order to achieve widespread sustainable impact.
The twenty newly inducted Fellows include individuals from Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, and South Africa.
Kehinde Ayeni, Executive Director of LEAP Africa, congratulated the Fellows on their successful application and highlighted the importance of challenging the status quo and envisioning a brighter future for Africa.
The selected Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in the program, receive mentorship and support, and contribute to shaping Africa’s future through their innovative business models and commitment to societal growth. The program focuses on increasing access to energy and promoting sustainable environments in Africa.
