Ridwan Oke, a lawyer and Principal Partner of Iris Attorneys LP, was honored by the University of Ilorin on Thursday, May 2, 2024, as he was unveiled as a UNILORIN Advocate at the school’s auditorium.
The UNILORIN Advocates Unveiling initiative aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to their fields, communities, and alma mater.
During the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN, unveiled 23 alumni of the institution, acknowledging their excellence in various fields and their commitment to giving back to the school.
Egbewole stated, “As advocates, you will serve as our mouthpiece, championing our values of excellence, integrity, and community engagement. Through your leadership, expertise, and networks, you will play a pivotal role in promoting our institution, fostering collaboration, and enhancing the reputation of UNILORIN both nationally and internationally.”
He added, “But your role goes beyond mere promotion. As advocates, you will also serve as mentors and role models for our current students, inspiring them to dream big, pursue their passions, and make a positive impact in their communities. Our expectation is that you will share experiences, offer guidance, and provide opportunities for our students to thrive and succeed in their chosen paths.”
Expressing his gratitude for being recognized by his Alma Mater, Ridwan Oke, who was actively involved in advocating for Nigerian youths illegally imprisoned during the #EndSARS protests, said, “I am elated and grateful to be associated with my Alma Mater.”
Speaking on his contributions to the development of the school as an alumnus, he stated, “I provide mentorship for young students and, most importantly, support educational programs for students through various student bodies within the university.”
Ridwan also advised other UNILORIN alumni not to forget their connection with the school, adding, “I would advise them to stay connected with the University. A university is only as strong as its alumni, and world-class institutions are built through collaboration between the University and an active alumni community.”
