#RevolutionIsNow: One person allegedly shot, many injured in Lagos

One person was allegedly shot and majority sustained injury while taking to their heels at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

This occurred when the planned demonstration of the Coalition for Revolution (CORE) spearheaded by the former Presidential Aspirant of The African Action Congress (AAC), Mr Omoyele Sowore was averted by the heavy security presence.

One of the Security men, who sighted the protesters while approaching the protest ground, shot up and the stray bullet was said to have hit the leg of one boy whose name is unknown.

Others quickly ran away for cover but in the process sustained injury.

In a statement issued by the protesters, the conveners, Olaseni Ajai and Baba Aye demanded an immediate end to all IMF/World bank inspired and imposed anti-masses policies and programs such as increment in the prices of fuel and electricity, devaluation of the Naira, privatization of public assets, retrenchment of workers and banning mass recruitment to the public service.

Laying emphasis on the effective and democratic end to insecurity, they demanded the booting out of all the current security chiefs and the total democratic overhaul of the entire security architecture.

The conveners said that the total transformation of the Nigerian military from a military compromised occupiers and servants of the super-rich to a people’s army open to popular participation by all and incorporating existing defense forces that developed in the areas of conflict.

CORE advocates called for the immediate cancellation of the fraudulent constituency votes for legislators, security votes, pensions for past presidents and governors, the council of state made up of all past presidents and their vice.

It demanded that all outstanding salaries and pensions be paid up to date, making a criminal offence for top bureaucrats in the civil service or elected officials to divert workers’ wages.

The group also demanded for an immediate fall of school fees, free and qualitative education.
