Restructuring is long overdue —Bishop Oduntan

Bishop of Ajayi Crowther Anglican Diocese, Iseyin, Oyo State, Right Reverend Olukemi Oduntan, has restated the need for Nigeria’s restructuring, noting that it was the only option to satisfy citizens.
He stated this during the second session of the third synod of Ajayi Crowther Missionary Diocese, Iseyin, Oyo State, with the theme, Crowther and the Biblical Joseph, Models for True Spirituality and Nation Building, from July 13 to July 16, 2017, at Cathedral of St. Paul, Oke-Igbagbo, Iseyin.
He said: “Restructuring the Nigeria federation is long overdue. It is the only way to bring succour to the aspirations of its constituents federating units. There should not have been militancy and agitations for resource and or self control if true federalism had been practised. Can we truly say marginalisation is not real in Nigeria? Do we have equal opportunities as citizens of the same country?
“Those on the receiving end know where the shoe pinches. It is only insincerity that will make one to say nothing is wrong with our federalism. Those who profit from the imbalance see nothing wrong with the present structure. They frown on the notion of restructuring. The call for restructuring should go beyond the advantage accruing to some in this our skewed federal structure. It is all about the development of Nigeria.”
While the Provost, Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, Very Reverend (Dr) Isaac Adeyemi Adeniji, preached at the opening service; the regional coordinator of Scripture Union, Osogbo region, Sunday Ebenezer Okonna, led the Bible study, and the Vice Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Bishop (Professor) Dapo Asaju, preached at the closing thanksgiving service last Sunday.
Also present were Bishop Solomon Amusan of Oke-Ogun Anglican Diocese; Bishop Williams Aladekugbe of Oyo Anglican Diocese, and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Ganiyu Adekunle Salawu.
Bishop Oduntan, who noted that Nigeria’s greatest problem was that of leadership, said: “Restructuring Nigeria is not the same as dismantling the country. To restructure is to change the way in which something is organised. The aim of which is not for destruction rather for a better performance.”
He congratulated the Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, “for creating a standard that would stand the test of time in Oyo State,” just as he called for more developmental efforts in the Oke-Ogun area.
