The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has directed married female corps members to report for registration at the orientation camps in their husbands’ state of domicile, irrespective of the states indicated on their call-up letters.
It also said they must report to camp with their marriage certificates, evidence of change of name in a national newspaper and other valid marriage documents that were uploaded online during registration for service.
NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the directive during a nationwide virtual address to the 2022 Batch “A” Stream Two Prospective Corps Members on Wednesday.
According to him, the policy was initiated to enable them to have a seamless service year adding that the information is already contained in their call-up letters.
However, the DG warned that anyone caught presenting fake documents either on marital or health grounds in camp would be handed over to the law enforcement agents for prosecution.
The DG advised the Prospective Corps members to adhere strictly to the Oath of Allegiance that would be administered to them, adding that it would be binding on them during and after the service year.
While warning them against flouting all camp rules, he said anyone engaged in any act of indiscipline or criminality would be decamped.
Speaking further, he counselled the corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme which offers vocational training, comprising in-camp and post-camp training which he says is a gateway to self-reliance.
He added that efforts are in top gear towards having NYSC Trust Fund, “and once it comes through, you will be given start-up capitals to establish your businesses in line with the skills you have learnt during the service year.
“Let nobody discourage you from acquiring skills because white-collar jobs are not readily available. Ideas and skills are what matter now because many of your predecessors that were serious with the SAED training are now self-reliant and wealth creators, employing other Nigerians,” he said.
Meanwhile, the DG has disclosed that thr scheme had got approval for the NYSC FM Radio which would soon commence transmission.
He said already, the Internet Protocol Television on TSTV Channel 365 has commenced test transmission.
“The station would be managed by Corps Members in uniform while NYSC staff members would provide support services,” the DG said.
