The executive members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State branch, have visited past leaders of the association with a view to fostering cordial relationships and strengthening the core values of the organisation in the state.
The team, led by the state chairman, Pastor Monday Edogiawerie, visited the immediate past chairman of the association, Dr. Festus Alenkhe; chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Dr. Wilson Imongan and Mr Moses Obazee, who both served as past chairmen of the association.
Speaking on behalf of the state chairman of the Society, Pastor Edogiawerie, the secretary of the association, Mr. Wilson Ekhomogiazin, said the visit was in line with a directive issued by the executive, which they had resolved to implement strictly.
“The branch executive committee resolved that the present executive, both at the branch level and the divisional level, should pay visits to all past leaders.
“These past leaders are those who have served at the state level either as chairman or in other executive positions. And today (December 29), we are kick-starting the visits.
“We began with the immediate past chairman, in line with the directive of the present chairman that the visits should start with the person who handed over to him. We have three visits scheduled for today.
“So, we are presently in the office of Dr. Festus Alenkhe, who is also the chairman of NUJ. From here, we will be visiting Dr. Imongan, a former chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and a former Commissioner for Health in Edo State.
“Thereafter, we will visit Mr. Moses Obazee, a former branch chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and a former local government treasurer. The essence of these visits is to have a good time with them,” Edogiawerie said.
He noted that the contributions of the past leaderships have shaped the Society into what it is today in Edo, adding that the present executive is prepared to build on the solid foundations and enduring legacies of their predecessors.
He disclosed that in addition to the three past chairmen already visited, the executive will visit Mr. Michael Osuma and Dr. Moses Aghedo, who both held executive positions and led the association to greater heights at different times.
He stated that beyond visiting past chairmen, old members who contributed significantly to the survival and growth of the association will also be visited.
“The fact that we have an office called the Nigerian Red Cross Secretariat shows that our past leaders were visionary and left lasting marks for others to follow.
“Red Cross is not an organisation where we begin to compare what each person has done, but I want to say that every successive administration left footprints for everyone to see,” he said.
In his response, the immediate past chairman of the association and current chairman of NUJ in the state, Dr Alenkhe, commended the leadership of the association in Edo branch for the visit.
