Proposed nationwide strike: Consider security, Lagos CP urges unions

Ahead of the planned nationwide strike by the labour unions in Nigeria, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has urged the union members to be mindful of the security of lives and properties in the state.

The Lagos CP, while speaking with senior police officers, including Area Commanders and unit heads in the state, also expressed his hope that the matter will be resolved between the government and the union.

The Lagos police boss told journalists, “The Nigeria Labour Congress’ proposed protest formed part of the strategic meeting today. We are monitoring the development.”

The police boss added, “We do hope that Labour will resolve the issue and should prioritize the implications of the protest on internal security and work with the police so that there are no breaches.”

CP Owohunwa assured that “The outcome of this strategic meeting will be that Lagos residents will see enhanced security operations.”

Apart from the proposed strike by the union, the police boss stated that the meeting was aimed at reviewing the security situation in the country with a view to improving it.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Lagos police boss inaugurated the newly-built sculpture of the police logo at the command headquarters.

CP Owohunwa, while speaking during the inauguration, said that he was inspired to construct the logo after he saw a similar thing by the Nigerian Army 9th Brigade Ikeja, where a sculpture of a bull was erected.

The police boss said, “We actually came up with something different. We have been thinking of how to create what has never been in any police formation in Nigeria.”

CP Owohunwa also stated that “This mascot will give coming generations insight into the workings of the Nigeria Police Force, that it is a strong organisation that goes with nature.”
