Polytechnic students express worries over security on campuses

Published by

THE National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has expressed concern over security of students on various polytechnic campuses across the country.

It has, therefore, initiated a Nigerian Students Uniform Identity Card ((NSUID) project aimed at ensuring security of the beneficiaries.

The national president of the association, Mr Mohammed Eneji, at the security summit held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, said the event was held to examine the security issues that had been militating against development in the education sector.

He said the campuses of higher institutions were insecure and filled with vices like cultism, rape and so on, saying that the development had made the association to partner with Qcubuys Limited to provide a more secure identity card for students.

Eneji added that the new identity card being planned would enable students to have access to qualitative health care services and give room for proper identification and security.

The NAPS president, however, called on the Ministry of Science and Technology to, as a matter of urgency, look into the strike embarked upon by the members of staff of research institutes across the country.

He said the strike had lingered for too long and had disrupted academic activities in some National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND)-awarding institutions.

Eneji also wants the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to directly intervene to make the administration of the association easy.

He particularly pleaded with the TETFund to intervene directly by providing buses to the Students’ Union Governments (SUG) across the country.
