Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, joined members of Rotary International, District 9142, in a road walk on Saturday to celebrate the 2023 Polio Summit taking place in Awka.
The one-kilometre walk, which commenced at the Primary Health Centre in Amawbia and extended to the Paul University gate in Awka, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of poliomyelitis and the imperative need to eradicate this disease completely.
Before the walk, the governor’s wife, who administered a ceremonial polio vaccine to children at the health centre, reminded mothers that polio is still a dangerous child-killing disease. She urged them to actively participate in the campaign to completely eliminate it by taking the vaccination seriously. She also encouraged them to pay attention to common symptoms of the illness and know when to seek professional medical advice.
Mrs. Soludo, recently appointed as a Polio Ambassador by Rotary International, District 9142, called for renewed awareness of the disease’s existence despite intense efforts to eradicate it completely.
At the conclusion of the walk, the governor’s wife emphasised the importance of physical activity for good health and commended members of Rotary International for commencing the program with the road walk.
Members of Rotary International, District 9142, led by District Governor Mr Akan Emah, and the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem, also participated in the event.
