Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has come out to disclose that they have sent Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau to the Social Development Secretariat of the FCT Administration for mental assessment and evaluation.
The Command stated that if Shuaibu is found to be mentally stable, he will be charged in court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to various sections of the Penal Code Act.
It be recalled that Nigerian Tribune had reported how Shuaibu on Monday morning caused a stir by climbing a 120-feet broadband mast at Aso Radio in Katampe Hill area of Abuja, threatening to jump down to death if his demands that President Bola Tinubu resolves the current hardship by restoring subsidy on fuel, fix insecurity and out-of-school children menace were not met.
Shuaibu, who hails from Maiduguri in Borno, later came down from the mast after much persuasion from the acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Mrs Florence Dawon Wenegieme, and was arrested by operatives of the FCT Police Command, also called on Nigerians to join the protest.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh was quoted as saying: “The FCT police command has today, July 9, 2024, sent Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment and evaluation following his rather troubling action, which caused apprehension in the populace on Monday, July 8, 2024, by climbing a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, and attempting to take his own life.
“The suspect, if found to be mentally stable after the test, will be charged in court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, urges residents to be law-abiding while pushing for their voices to be heard, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the breakdown of law and order.”
