The thirteen passengers kidnapped along Aniagbala Community via Ubulu-uku express road in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday have been rescued by the police.
A gang of daredevil kidnappers had intercepted a fourteen-seater bus with registration number M831-FJK at about 8.40 pm conveying sixteen persons.
A statement by the state police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe said one of the suspects was shot dead on the spot while the other members of the gang escaped with bullet injuries.
According to him, the victims were rescued alive and unhurt while one AK-47 rifle was recovered.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali had directed the DPO of the Ogwashi-Uku Division to lead men into the bush and ensure the victims were rescued.
Reports indicated that the divisional police officer, CSP Mohammed Naallah swiftly led a combined team of Police operatives and vigilantes into the bush and gave the hoodlums a hot chase which led to an exchange of gunfire.
The bush is still being combed with a view to arresting the other fleeing members of the gang.
