The Bayelsa State Police command, yesterday, said it has successfully mopped up 24 fire arms, 121 ammunitions and arrested 25 suspects for various offences such as kidnapping, arm robbery and cultism.
The State Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia, stated this launch of “Operation Puff Adder’’, a security operation aimed at tackling criminality in the state.
According to him, the 25 suspect some of the suspects are in court as the police is working round the clock to make Bayelsa safe for law abiding citizens.
He the fire arms recovered are “7 locally made revolver pistols, 28 locally made single barreled pistols, 4 locally made double barreled guns, 2 AK-47 fabricated riffles and one Barletta pistols.”
CP Anozia urged criminals to change their ways or go elsewhere to operate, as the state would be made difficult for them to carryout their operations at will.

On the newly launched “Operation Puff Adder’’, CP Anozia, said it was done on the directive of the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, in a bid to reclaim the state from the nefarious activities of some individuals threatening the nation’s internal security.
“In compliance with the IGP’s directives, the Bayelsa State Police Command set up a special squad which comprises of 170 gallant officers and men officially launch Operation Puff Adder in the state.
“The officers were carefully selected from the detachment of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, State Intelligence Bureau, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Anti-Robbery Squad, Anti-Cultism/Kidnapping Unit and from various police Divisions,’’ he said.
He said the operation is designed to source for actionable intelligence, to confront and annihilate criminals and mop- up illegal arms from unauthorised individuals. (NAN)
