The Edo State Police on Thursday arrested a suspected kidnapper, Mallam Yusuf Aliu, 22 at the old road in Aduwawa, suburban Benin City, Edo State.
The Edo State Police spokesman, Mr Kpontongs Bello said in Benin yesterday who has been terrorizing Benin-Auchi Road and its environs and has been on the police wanted list for armed robbery and kidnapping.
Kpontongs, a superintendent of police alleged that the suspect is the leader of a four-man gang of kidnappers that reportedly abducted one Lucky Ojezele at Idumwengie Community along Benin-Auchi Road last May.
According to the spokesman, on July 1, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of Edo State Police Command arrested the kidnap kingpin who has been terrorizing Benin-Auchi Road and its environs.
He said that detectives of the Anti-Kidnapping Crime Unit of the through hi-tech tracking/intelligence nabbed him in the Edo State capital, adding that one of his gang members, Philemon Timothy had earlier been arrested by the operatives and is presently being tried in a court of law.
Bello said that on interrogation, Yusuf confessed to the crime of kidnapping and armed robbery, noting that efforts are in top gear to arrest the remaining two suspects.
He said: “The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Phillip Ogbadu enjoins all indigenes of Edo State to go about their lawful businesses as the command is not relenting in its effort of protecting lives and property.”
