Operatives of the Imo State Command’s tactical team have arrested a 32years gang leader of a notorious armed robbery syndicate identified as Oguzie Chukwudi in a wanted list of the state command.
The team arrested the suspect yesterday Wednesday while on surveillance patrol along Owerri/Port Harcourt road.
Also recovered from the leader of the syndicate who hails from Amasa Ngugo, in Ikeduru LGA of Imo state include 3 locally made Revolver pistols, 15 rounds of live cartridges, varieties of prohibited hard drugs and other robbed items.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Owerri, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye said that the arrest of the hoodlum was a sequel to the dexterity and curiosity shown by the clever operatives while conducting an intelligence-led stop-and-search on a commercial bus they intercepted.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is the gang leader of a notorious armed robbery syndicate on the command’s wanted list, famous for their nefarious activities in the state.
According to him, the suspect had confessed to some of the crimes perpetrated by his gang.
He said that effort is on top gear to track down other suspects at large and the local manufacturer of the gun adding that they will be arraigned in court on completion of a diligent investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde has commended the operatives for their proactiveness, while charging them to dominate the entire security space and continue to mop up illicit firearms from the hands of criminally minded elements in the state.
While appealing to the law-abiding residents to report any suspicious person/activities in their neighbourhood to the nearest Police Station, the CP has ordered a manhunt for the manufacturers of the locally made gun.
