Delta State Police Command has made significant arms recoveries, seizing three AK-47 rifles, seven pump-action guns, and over 4,700 rounds of ammunition during stop-and-search operations in the state.
On 3rd March, operatives of the Dragon 14 unit intercepted a blue Toyota Camry along Warri/Benin Road near Western Delta University, Oghara.
The vehicle’s modified trunk raised suspicion, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search.
Hidden beneath the seats, they discovered three AK-47 rifles, 3,120 rounds of ammunition, and four boxes of 51mm rounds.
The driver, Peter James, 55, from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was arrested.

In a separate operation on 6th March, the Dragon Patrol Team 02 stopped a navy blue Sharon space bus on the Asaba/Benin expressway near the National Open University, Onicha-Ugbo.
Disguised as traders transporting palm oil and garri, the suspects—Yahuza Magaji, 69, and Abba Sani, 17, from Kaduna—were caught with seven pump-action guns and 1,600 rounds of live cartridges hidden under the back seat.
Preliminary investigations indicate they purchased the weapons in Onitsha for transport to Kaduna.
Commending the officers, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda said, “The determination and vigilance of our men have once again prevented deadly weapons from reaching the wrong hands.
“We will not relent in our efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements.”
He urged all personnel to “remain resolute in making the state uninhabitable for criminals.”
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
