Kano Police Command has arrested six suspected phone thieves in the ancient commercial city of Kano.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Salman Dogo Garba, who disclosed this vowed to keep cracking down on all forms of criminality and criminal elements in Kano state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyaywa, a copy made available to the press on Thursday in Kano.
The statement reads: “The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the arrest of six suspected mobile phone thieves operating within Kano Metropolis and recovery of two of their operational tricycles and fifteen mobile phones.
According to him, “The suspects were arrested between the 11th and 15th of January, 2025 by a team of Police Operatives attached to the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department. This achievement was made possible through credible information received and intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts and black spots within Kano Metropolis.”
Police gave the names of the suspects to include: Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir.
Kiyawa said, “All the suspects confessed to the crime and further stated that they specialized in disguising as Tricycle Riders and stealing of passengers mobile phones.”
Police confirmed items recovered from the mobile phone armed robbers to include: two operational Tricycles with Reg No. KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ; 15 mobile phones.
Two operational Tricycles and 15 stolen mobile phones were recovered from the hoodlums, who are suspected to be terrorizing hapless residents lately.
CP Dogo Garba commended the officers and men involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication.
He also appreciated the cooperation and support of the public, which led to the successes recorded.
He then called on members of the public that ” Anyone who recognizes his/her mobile phone or tricycle among the recovered items should report at the Public Relations Office, Kano State Command or contact: 07063407910,”
The CP however warned that “the Command will continue to crack down on all forms of criminality in the State, including mobile phone theft, armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), etc.”
