No fewer than 24 suspects caught in armed robbery, cultism and kidnapping in the last two months, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohammad Shabba has stated.
Shabba is the Area Commander, Warri Area Command of the Nigeria Police.
He disclosed while fielding questions from members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel, who had paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday.
Shabba said that crime rate in his command has reduced drastically since he assumed office some months ago.
According to the police boss, “I have been able to manage the situation since I assumed office.
I hold meetings with the Divisional Police Officers of the 11 divisions under me twice in a month to brainstorm on the way forward.
That is why we have been able to checkmate the activities of the hoodlums.
In the last two months, we have arrested over 20 suspects, some armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists.
In some operations, there were exchange of bullets and in the process some of the suspects gunned down.
We are trying our best and I assured you we will continue to do our best to ensure the environment is safe for all of us.”
The police boss also said that most of the crime happening in Warri were been perpetrated by hoodlums residing in Ovwian and other neighboring communities in Udu Local Government Area, using tricycles.
“We are doing our best to ensure that axis is well policed,” he said.
He assured the chapel of a more cordial, robust and purposeful relationship, just as he urged journalists to always report any shortcoming of his officers to him for appropriate actions.
