The Tribunal sitting on the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) at the Court of Appeal in Abuja has accused a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and counsel for the All Progressive Congress (APC), Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, of attempting to interrupt the court judgment.
Tribune Online reports that Vice President Kashim Shettima, the National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, among other top politicians, had earlier arrived at the PEPC sitting at the Court of Appeal for the judgment in the three petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
Since the sitting commenced, it has been the trending topic in the Nigerian media space.
In the latest development on the first judgment sitting, there was adrama following a request raised by Uwensuyi-Edosomwan asking the court to deliver its judgments briefly and concisely.
He enjoined the court to either “dismiss or allow” the petitions of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC.
He said in part, “Please, my lord, you ought to be rested by either saying dismiss or allow.”
Cutting in, one of the Tribunal justices said, “Sorry please, you don’t have to interrupt judgment. We are delivering judgment, and we are still on. Please leave the judgment where it is. If you are confused when you get the judgment, you will read it.”
“You don’t have to suggest to us how to make a judgment. So, you seriously think that all five of us wouldn’t know that?” the justice added.
The lawyer, however, apologised and returned back to his seat after the encounter with one of the Tribunal justices.
