The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin has announced the dissolution of all 36 standing committees of the Assembly.
Ogundoyin made the announcement just before adjournment of the Assembly’s plenary held on Thursday.
He, subsequently, directed all the Chairmen of the committees to hand over all ongoing and concluded bills, reports to their respective committee clerks.
This is as he said ad-hoc committees will be set up to ratify and complete the 10 outstanding bills in the Assembly before going on recess.
He also stated that every lawmaker and staff of the Assembly will be asked to complete evaluation forms.
Especially, Ogundoyin told the lawmakers to state in their forms comprehensive activities, engagements both in the Assembly and at their various constituencies.
The reconstitution of the standing committees is expected to see a new set of lawmakers in “juicy” committees and another set in “less juicy” committees.
Speaking after the plenary on the dissolution, Ogundoyin said: “Standing committees are one of the pillars of the Legislature and the House of Assembly.
“This is our 2nd Year in office. We are expected to re-evaluate our position, we are expected to be more efficient and effective in our duties as legislators in terms of oversight and lawmaking as well as other functions of the legislators.
“When new committees are constituted, it will allow members to have new experiences and ultimately widen their horizon.”
