Over 200 widows have benefitted from food items distributed by a non-governmental organisation, Your Maker is Your Husband Empowerment Initiative, in Ibadan.
The food items distributed included rice, food ingredients, and beverages, while there was also a free medical checkup for all the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the distribution of the food items, the convener of the event, Elizabeth Fatokunbo, explained that the event is organized to give succour to the widows.
Fatokunbo stated that the initiative, which commenced eight years ago, is meant to show love to the widows and make them understand that God is with them.
She said that the vision of the annual event started 20 years ago after the demise of her husband.
She charged Nigerians to show love to one another by giving to the needy in society.
She said, “The vision of this initiative started 20 years ago following the death of my husband, though the initiative officially commenced eight years ago.
“This initiative is meant to give succour to widows, as we felt there is a need to put a smile on their faces as they are facing a lot as a result of the demise of their husbands. I urge all well-meaning Nigerians to share love with the needy.”
Speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Mogbonjubola Olatunji, appreciated the convener for the gesture.
She prayed for the convener, who has put a smile on the widows’ faces.
Also speaking with Tribune Online, Elizabeth Salaudeen also appreciated the convener for the gesture.
