The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State on Thursday called on State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke to lift the ban on the union’s activities in the state, as members’ means of livelihood have been blocked since 2022.
The union made the appeal through its acting Chairman, Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale, during a state working committee and all members meeting at the Zone 2 Council Secretariat in Osogbo.
According to him, the union members have been suffering over the past two years, with their children out of school.
“I respectfully plead with the good people of Osun State and all our traditional rulers, headed by His Royal Majesty Arole Oodua, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), to help us intervene and appeal to our amiable governor to lift the ban on our great union (NURTW) activities in the state.”
“I have recently observed needless attacks, harassment, intimidation, and threats to the lives of our members by some members of OSTMS in our various motor parks in the state. Some of our members are being ejected from their parks, where they earn their daily living.”

“We believe these actions could lead to further unrest in the state if not addressed immediately.”
“The State Government agency headed by one Nurudeen Wakeel (a.k.a Ola Mummy) looted and violently occupied our state secretariat, resulting in the loss of some members’ lives. Despite this, the government’s proscription order has severely impacted our legitimate means of livelihood. The agency also takes pleasure in oppressing, exploiting, and making life difficult for our members.”
He commended the NURTW Acting Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya “MC Oluomo,” for his efforts to restore normalcy to the state council of the union.
“I want to bring to everyone’s attention that we have acted as law-abiding citizens of the state. I cannot end my speech without thanking you all for your time.
“My deep appreciation and gratitude go to the members of the union’s State Executives, Branch Chairmen, and Unit Chairmen with their Executives, as well as all other distinguished members from the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State and invited guests. Your gracious and esteemed presence here adds immeasurable value to this grand occasion,” he concluded.
