THE Federal Government of Nigeria has stated its unending support in supplying food and relief materials to the victims of flood disaster in Anambra state
The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo announced this during his visit to Anambra state to assess the level of flood disaster in those flood raved areas.
Prof Osinbajo who visited Umueze Anam, Anambra West local government Area, witnessed some families evacuating their property from their flood raved homes.
He noted that the federal government had declared a natural disaster in those areas, saying it would deploy more federal resources to alleviate the suffering of the people.
According to the VP, “I flew over those disaster areas and I witnessed the rise especially in Onitsha, Ogbaru, Awka North, Coscharis farm and other places.
“We have directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to continue deploying relief materials to various IDP Camps and some home settlements who have refused to evacuate from their homes,” Osinbajo stated.
While commending Gov Willie Obiano for his prompt response to the situation, the Vice President stressed that he would partner the state government to ensure proper management of the resources.

Receiving the Vice President, Gov Willie Obiano recalled that he had earlier visited those areas to ascertain the level of disaster.
Gov Obiano observed that the flood disaster did not only submerged their home settlements but their farms, which is their major sources of livelihood.
The Traditional Ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Christopher Idigo called on the federal government to partner hydrologists to provide lasting solutions to the flood problems, by creating dams that would absorb water from River Benue and River Niger.
One of the victims, Mr Friday Ekwuoba, a farmer, regretted that the level of damage caused by the flood, saying it had affected their means of livelihood.
Mr Ekwuoba, who refused to evacuate from his settlement regardless of the flood pleaded for federal government assistance to enable them survive the storm.
The Vice President was in accompany with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, The director general of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Engineer Mustapha Maihaja among others.
