The suspect who had slept for over 24 hours after his arrest at the scene of the operation was suspected to have taken a large quantity or dose of drugs suspected to be Tramadol.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, who was paraded while still sleeping at the Police Headquarters in Akure, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Femi Joseph, explained that the suspect and his gang members had invaded a Pharmacy store in Owo to kidnap the owner of the store before he went to sleep.
Joseph explained that the three-man gang invaded the store with a gun with the intention to kidnap the owner who raised alarm escaped through the back door.
According to Ondo PPRO, the armed men came out of the shop only to meet one of the customers who was on his way to buy drugs and subsequently seized his motorcycle at gunpoint
He explained that two of the kidnappers escaped with the motorcycle which they brought to the scene of the operation while the arrested suspect mounted on the stolen motorcycle
He said “the arrested suspect tried to go away with the motorcycle but stumbled while he was trying to ride the motorcycle and he was apprehended but said the suspect had been sleeping ever since then.
The suspect was said to have slept for more than 24 hours after his arrest while a 400mg tablet of tramadol was recovered from his pocket.
Joseph said ” a gang of kidnappers entered Chinery Pharmacy shop on the 5th August 2018, with the intention of kidnapping the pharmacist, who on sighting them with arms, escaped through the back exit door.
“The robbers later came out of the shop and at gunpoint collected one Boxer Bajaj motorcycle from one Daodu Wale who arrived the chemist to buy drugs.
“Two of the robbers escaped with the bike while one of them who attempted to escape with the motorcycle but however stumbled and fell and was overpowered.
He said that “one locally cut to size locally made barrel was recovered from him while search conducted on him and a 400mg tablet of tramadol was recovered from his pocket.”
Similarly, another suspect was arrested in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Sunday, arrested one Ebele Victor, who invaded a residence in Oba-Ile area of the town with the intention to rob.
The PPRO explained that policemen from the area responded to a distress call which led to the arrest of the Victor who also went to sleep after his arrest.
He said a distress call was received that hoodlums scaled the fence of a house and entered the house, while detectives mobilised to the scene and arrested Ebele Victor.
“On interrogation, he confessed scaling the fence to rob and that he was under influence of Tramadol and that he took 600mg of Tramadol and (SK), a brand of India hemp.
He, however, said the investigation is in progress to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
