No fewer that 100 widows and the less privileged have benefitted from the empowerment initiative of the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Mobilisation, Michael Olakunle.
The convener of the initiative, Olakunle, who presented each beneficiary with the sum of N20,000 each, said the programme is designed to enhance the living status of the beneficiaries.
He stated that widows and less privileged deserve a better life and should not be neglected, hence the initiative to empower them.
He said the initiative is also part of his bid to strengthen mobilisation in Akure South Local Government towards the aspiration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the next governorship election.
He observed that widowhood remains vulnerable segment of the population that must be given the needed assistance, and said the initiative was established to assist and give them succour.
He commended the people of Akure South local government for the demonstration of love exhibited by them and reiterated Aiyedatiwa’s commitment towards promoting investment in the less privileged members of the society for the good of the state.
He promised to toll out more empowerment initiative saying “I am happy Akure kingdom is supporting Aiyedatiwa’s vision to transform Ondo State.
“This is the first phase of our empowerment project in supporting the aspiration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as more empowerment programmes should be expected.
“What we have for you is more bigger and many more people will benefit in the next phase. More programme will be rolled out before the election,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Agnes Owonifari, described the initiative as commendable and advocated efforts that could alleviate poverty and marginalization of widows and orphans in the state.
She appreciated the convener of the foundation, calling on other spirited individuals in the local government to emulate the governor’s aide.
Also, Mrs. Bosede Aduloju described the initiative as a timely intervention that will cushion the effects of the hike in prices of commodities.
