There is urgent need to develop a formal agricultural market that will help in exportation of agricultural produce across the continent and also engage in marketing of such products.
Presently, peasant farmers are the ones responsible for this and the government can help in controlling and management of all forms of agricultural market because they collect diverse taxes from farmers and other individuals in the agricultural chain.
Also, this year, peasant farmers across the country were able to cultivate and make food available in the market which made things a bit easier on the people, to encourage them; government should compensate them by ensuring that they are taken care of as this will go a long way in solving agricultural production problems.
The compensation can be in form of free cultivation of land, subsidised agricultural products, access to farm machinery available and buying their agricultural produce or helping them with distribution of all forms of inputs to them.
Also, start-up capital may be given to subsistence farmers to encourage them to improve on the quantity of production while training on new technology will also help them ensure food availability.
