Members of the Old Students Association of St. Peter Claver’s College (SPCC), Aghalokpe, Delta State, have donated a 40-seater capacity ICTs laboratory for the use of the students.
The facility, built and furnished by members of the Class of ’82, chaired by Rt Hon Efe Afe, with over 30 members of the class in attendance, was inaugurated weekend by the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), who was represented by the Duke of Okpe kingdom, Chief Michael Afe, as part of three days activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the school.
The event was held at the SPCC’s open field at Aghalokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area of the state, with scores of old students of the school in attendance.
Conducting the representative of the Orodje of Okpe kingdom round the facility, Hon. Efe Afe, who’s a member representing Okpe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the donation was to ensure the students were well-equipped to sit for external exams, and so that the school could join the league of accredited centres for external examinations.
Former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Charles Ajuyah SAN, who’s the Chairman of the occasion, expressed delight and appreciated all present old students for their immense contributions to the growth and development of their alma mater.
He stated that SPCC has produced very successful, high-ranking individuals both in the government circles, military, academia and the business world, among other walks of life, just as he reminisced the greatness of some notable alumni who had passed.
The National President of the school’s Old Students Association, Mr Cornelius Akpojotor Semiteje, during his remarks, paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers, including Bishop Patrick Kelly, Rev. Fr. Michael Scully and Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Cafogan who, as expatriates, made indelible impact as teachers in the school.
He thanked the Aghalokpe community for generously donating land for the relocation of the school to its present permanent site, adding that the old students all over the world were mobilized, after he took over as national president, to fix dilapidated infrastructures including the road network.
Sir. Semiteje, however, called on the state government to continue to invest in mission schools for the academic, moral, spiritual and social benefits of the students.
Earlier in his goodwill message, Principal of the school, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ogaga, who’s been in the school for 10 years, thanked the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for handing over schools, including SPCC, back to missionaries before the end of his tenure.
While urging all stakeholders to key into the college’s vision to churn out more world class products in various fields of human endeavours, Rev. Fr. Ogaga appealed to everyone present at the event to do more by providing furniture for the renovated principal’s house.
The Saturday 70th anniversary event, which had the Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee and former General Manager, Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri, Mr. Willy Sowho, as master of ceremony, was rounded off by the launching of a book, SPCC Aghalokpe: The Pearl on the River Ethiope, awards to some deserving old students and cutting of the anniversary cake.
