The Member Representing the People of Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State at the National Assembly, Hon. Kama Nkemkanma, has called on his constituents to continue to support one another and champion causes that will uplift the constituency.
The federal lawmaker stated this during the occasion of the OHANIVO Unity Carnival, the grand finale of the Face of OHANIVO and Talent Hunt program held at Onicha Central School, Egunkwo, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
This unity carnival, started last year by the federal lawmaker, was born out of a collective desire to strengthen the bonds that tie the 10 traditional clans that make up the constituency, which is bestowed with diverse rich arts and culture that make it unique.
The constituency, made up of Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Local Government Areas, has each constituent community having its own festivals such as the Aju Festival, New Yam Festival, Wrestling, Cultural Dance, Age Grade Rites, Masquerades, among others. Also, OHANIVO people are diligent and are known for certain arts such as mat making, palm wine tapping, salt production, pottery, blacksmithing, wood carving, and so on.
“It is with immense joy and gratitude that I welcome you all to the second edition of the OHANIVO Unity Carnival. As your representative, it is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you on this remarkable occasion, an occasion that showcases the spirit, culture, and unity of our beloved constituency.
“Last year, we embarked on a journey with the maiden edition of this Unity Carnival. It was a vision born out of our collective desire to strengthen the bonds that tie us together, celebrate our rich heritage, and create a platform for fostering collaboration and understanding among our people. The overwhelming turnout and successes recorded during the inaugural event proved that the Ohanivo Constituency is not just a collection of communities and villages but a family united by shared values and aspirations.
“This year, as we gather once again, we do so with renewed enthusiasm and an even greater commitment to unity, peace, and progress. We will not have just a carnival, but also witness the grand finale of the Face of Ohanivo Beauty Pageant and the Ohanivo Talent Hunt.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s carnival, “Celebrating Our Heritage, Building Our Future Together,” the lawmaker reflected his unwavering belief in the power of community and his determination to lay a solid foundation for generations to come.
He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru’s native intelligence, whose exemplary leadership and continual support have provided a fair and peaceful environment for lawmakers to operate and provide impactful representation to the people.
Additionally, Kama said, “The Ohanivo Unity Carnival is more than a celebration; it is a movement. It is a call to action for all of us to embrace our diversity as a strength and to work collectively for the advancement of our community. Through the vibrant displays of culture, music, dance, and art that we will witness today, let us be reminded of the richness of our heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
“Today, we also gather to celebrate the beauty, talent, and creativity of our young people. We are proud to provide a platform for our youths to showcase their skills, confidence, and charisma. The Face of Ohanivo Beauty Pageant and Ohanivo Talent Hunt are more than just competitions – they are opportunities for our young people to shine, to build their self-esteem, and to develop their skills in various areas.
“As we enjoy the festivities, I urge us all to reflect on the importance of unity and collaboration. Let us continue to support one another, champion causes that uplift our communities, and strive for a society where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can overcome any challenge and achieve greatness.
“Allow me to express my deepest appreciation to the central planning committee and every individual who has contributed to making this event a reality. Your dedication and hard work are a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines Ohanivo. To our esteemed guests who have travelled from near and far to celebrate with us, your presence here today is a source of pride and encouragement.
“To all our awardees, we thank you immensely for your contribution and impact on our constituency, humanity, and the world at large. May you all continue to do more for the betterment of our people and community, be our great ambassadors, and shining armour.”
Meanwhile, the lawmaker thanked all participants, traditional rulers, performers, and vendors who have brought colour and excitement to the event. According to him, their contributions are invaluable, and their energy is what makes the event a truly memorable experience.
“Let me specially thank Mr. Andy Chukwu, Ambassador Nnenna Jolly Abani, and Okorie Chukwuemeka Prince (a.k.a Emmyz-Boy) for your various efforts in putting together the contents of today’s event. Thank you very much to Chief (Dr.) Nwakaego Rosemary Emmanuel (Ego Bekee), for your unwavering support. Despite your bereavement, you still took it upon yourself to make this possible. I appreciate you, Ma. To Ogbonna Onu (Onowu), I say thank you very much for your efforts.
“To my staff and aides, I am grateful for your understanding. Only we know what we are going through and the personal sacrifices we’re making to put Ohanivo on a perpetual path of development. I truly appreciate you all.
“To my lovely wife and awesome children, your sacrifices are immeasurable. Words are not enough to say thank you for allowing me to serve our people. You guys are my support engine.
“To my God, the author and finisher of my fate, the One who makes all things possible, my enabler, the one without whom nothing is possible, I am eternally grateful.”
