The 26-member of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday, re-elected, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
Oluomo representing Ifo 1 State Constituency was elected unopposed amidst intrigues and intense lobbying.
It will be recalled that the inauguration of the 10th Assembly ought to have taken place, last Tuesday, but was abruptly put on hold in the early hours of the day.
This development generated a lot of concern among the Assembly members and other stakeholders in the state.
However, the inauguration slated for Tuesday (yesterday) witnessed a lot of drama regarding who becomes the Speaker and other principal officers of the Assembly.
It was gathered that the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, had an interest in Oluomo, becoming the Speaker, while the vast majority of members-elect queued behind Hon. Oludaisi Elemide in leading the House.
The clerk of the House, Mr Deji Adeyemo, eventually called the House to order and requested nominations for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Assemblyman, Hon. Lamidi Musefiu, representing Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency 11, nominated Oluomo, as Speaker and was seconded by Owode Waliu, representing Ijebu East State Constituency.
In the absence of further nominations, Oluomo was declared the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
While Hon Àjayi was nominated for the deputy Speaker position by Hon. Bakare Oluwayemisi, representing Ijebu Ode State Constituency and seconded by Hon Odunuga Segun Kaka representing Ijebu North State Constituency 11.
