THE body of the late former governor of the old Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, on Tuesday arrived Benin City via the Benin Airport ahead of his burial on Friday.
The body of the former military and civilian governor of the old Bendel State was received at the Benin Airport by the governors of Edo and Delta states, Godwin Obaseki and Ifeanyi Okowa respectively and other people.
According to Governor Obaseki, Dr Ogbemudia left a lasting legacy, which Edo is building on. In his portrayal of Dr Ogbemudia, the Governor Obaseki said he could not forget the encouragement Dr Ogbemudia gave him, adding that without his open and clear endorsement, his campaign would have been difficult.
Governor Okowa on his own described late Ogbemudia as a role model to politicians, noting that he still lives through his works.
He said, “I want to condole with the family of the late elder statesman; he meant a lot to both states of Edo and Delta. We will remember him for so many things; as at today, a lot of things still stand in his name”.
Speaking about his last moment with late Ogbemudia, Governor Okowa recalled that he had a quiet time with him in 2015, when he invited him to deliver a lecture during his birthday.
Dr Ogbemudia’s body was driven to his residence in a motorcade at about 1:20 pm. The body arrived the residence of Dr Ogbemudia located 26, Iheya Street, Off New Lagos Road, Benin City, at about 2:00pm amidst wailing and crying by family and well wishers.
