The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has supplied a new transformer to the old Lokoja water works for adequate water supply to communities.
The process to install the transformer, according to the Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk, has commenced immediately.
Recall that the challenges of power supply to the old Lokoja water works were mentioned as one of the major factors hindering the supply of water to the metropolis, according to the Water Resources Commissioner at an engagement with stakeholders last Sunday at the Angwan Tiv area of Lokoja.
It will also be recalled that the Commissioner had, in the meeting, promised the release of water to the metropolis beginning from today, Wednesday.
But with the delivery of the transformer today, the release and supply of water will be disrupted since the water works have been temporarily shut down following its disconnection from the power source to enable the installation of the brand new transformer.
The Commissioner, who was on the ground to inspect the transformer being installed, however, informed the general public that following the disruption, the supply of water, all things being equal, will be restored by Friday.
The Commissioner expressed his appreciation to Gov. Ododo for the release of the transformer, describing the gesture as a major step towards the supply of water to Lokoja.
The Commissioner pointed out that Gov. Ododo’s gesture is in furtherance of his effort to provide potable water to the people of Lokoja.
Engr. Farouk explained that following the complaints of power affecting the seamless supply of water, the Governor swiftly approved and released a brand new transformer that will enhance the operation of the old Lokoja water works.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, while thanking Gov. Ododo for making the water sector a top priority in his administration, solicited the support and cooperation of the citizens in owning and protecting all water projects in their areas.
The Commissioner praised the citizens for their patience and assured them that very soon, the water challenges facing the people will be a thing of the past.
