Obasanjo inaugurates first flyover in North East, Yola

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Governor Ahamdu Finitri’s giant stride in making democracy the people’s choice.

Noting that the efforts being made by the Finitri administration is an indication that we will get to the desired place despite the quarter of a century of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria with scepticism saying Nigerians have not gotten it right.

Obasanjo stated this in Yola, Adamawa state capital during the inauguration of the first flyover and grade interchange in the northeast sub-region of Nigeria.

The former president who performed the inauguration said the essence of governance is to bring positive change to the people who are being served.

“Finitri has shown to the world, what it takes to lead, I am very pleased with what I see in Yola today”

“Governor Finitri, you are doing well,” he said.

The former president also charged the governor to take his urban renewal programs to the rural areas, stressing that rural development will help in curbing security challenges as the people will see the need of staying in their locality.

Since I took over as governor of the state l made up my mind for real positive change engendered in the promise of democracy.

“Exactly five years ago, I took the Oath of Office to serve as your democratically-elected Governor. In my address at the occasion, I stated that ‘’Positive change has come to Adamawa State’’.

I was conscious of the hope of our people and the trust in me to bring about positive change for all Adamawa people regardless of tribe, religion, social background or political inclination.

The task ahead was very clear in my mind and I was fully committed to discharging it with the zeal of a missionary.

Precisely one year ago, I took another Oath of Office for my second term.
If my election for the first term was a trust, my second election represents a vote of confidence and an impetus to do more.

“The choice of our Father, President Olusegun Obasanjo to come and do us the honour of commissioning this project is a deliberate one.

“The world says I am bold and courageous. the same world equally says I am blunt and slapdash”.

” One thing I know, is that I am in a hurry to deliver on the trust of my people. And my best class is President Obasanjo. Sir, thank you for honouring our invitation. thank you for teaching us that governance is about the people and responsible governance is service to humanity”

“The cause of such service, the critical success factor is to have the courage to subdue any form of fear and aim at nothing but tangible results”

He noted that projects of this nature, are landmark signatures for every city, for urban planning purpose and municipal identification, they are conventionally named.

“In line with this tradition, and keeping faith with what it represents and symbolizes in the city and in Adamawa state, I hereby name the overhead bridge and a grade interchange with under pass as the Adamawa Unity Bridge”.
