Federal Government has commenced the training of 200 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as Enumerators of the School Feeding Programme in Bauchi State.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq disclosed this in Bauchi State during the flag-off of the Stakeholders’ meeting and enumeration exercise.
Farouq described the decision of the present administration on the engagement of the stakeholders and the Corps Members as enumerators as the most innovative way to manage the National Social Investment Program (NSIP), especially the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP).
“We have resolved that having the biometric data of all the beneficiaries of this program would create an avenue for better program planning.
“Implementation would create more room for enlisting more beneficiaries. This would also foster transparency and accountability in line with government regulations,” she said.
The representative of the Minister, Grema Ali Alhaji, Director of Humanitarian Affairs, assured that the engagement “would further ensure judicious and accurate use of resources allocated to the Ministry.”
According to her, the nationwide exercise will continue beyond this first intervention, our partners who have been engaged are required to identify and capture the biometrics of each child on the programme.
Speaking earlier, Hajiya Amina Katagum, the National Social Interventions Program (NSIP) Focal Person in Bauchi State, commended Federal Government for all the interventions in the state.
She said the NHGSFP will improve enrollment of school children, creates employment, boosts the economy of the state and will also help the women engaged to be self-reliant.
She disclosed that the Programme is targeting about 444,000 pupils to benefit from the school feeding.
However, the focal person who explained that about 800 schools were excluded from the Programme, solicited for their inclusion in the Programme.
She urged the Corps members to be diligent, taking responsibility as good citizens of Nigerians to put in their best during the exercise.

Others are National Youth Service Corps, UBEC, State Education Board are all jointly working closely to verify the existing numbers of beneficiaries on the Programme and update the record for better effectiveness.
