The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Zamfara State chapter, has received 4,000 bags of grains as palliatives from the state government to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal for over sixteen thousand workers in the state.
Comrade Sani Halliru, Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), disclosed this during the flagging off of the distribution to workers in the state, which took place today in Gusau.
He revealed that the state government sent the gesture to the NLC for distribution as part of the federal government’s palliatives.
Comrade Sani Halliru expressed his gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for the gesture, and he stated that they are also expecting palliatives from the state government in addition to those from the federal government.
The 4,000 bags of grains received consist of 2,000 bags of rice and 2,000 bags of maize. However, they may not be enough to go around for the over 60,000 workers in the state.
He urged the workers to accept what they will receive, even though not everyone will benefit due to the limited quantity the labour union received.
Sani, speaking on behalf of the NLC and TUC, noted that the palliatives would be distributed to workers in various sectors, including those in ministries, departments, and agencies; local government staff; primary teachers; and health workers in primary healthcare.
The distribution will be facilitated by the heads of various MDAs, particularly the Directors of Administration and those in the Finance department who maintain records of staff in their respective offices in the state.
